Community Cam is an initiative where people can register a property with CCTV, and upload footage to help solve crime in their neighbourhood.

When a crime is committed, NZ Police can refer to Community Cam to quickly identify CCTV locations of registered users. This then allows Police to contact you to help with an investigation.

Your details are confidential and secure. Only Police can see your information. Community Cam just lets them know who owns a CCTV system, to save valuable time door knocking.

105 is the non-emergency contact for NZ Police. You can phone them 24/7 or report online at 105.police.govt.nz.

• Your car or bike has been stolen.
• Someone has vandalised your wall.
• You've lost your wallet or phone, or your handbag was stolen.
• Someone broke into your car.
• You're a retailer and someone has shoplifted or driven off without paying.
• You suspect a scam or drug dealing.
• Your house has been burgled — however, if the burglar may still be in your home or nearby, contact Police immediately by calling 111.

You can also use 105 to add information to an existing Police report, or to get in touch with your local Police station. If you can't get through to 105 for any reason, please call 0800 105 105.

Safer Plates events help with vehicle related crime prevention. Number plates are stolen for the sole purpose of criminal activity — placed on other vehicles for petrol drive-offs, toll roads, plate recognition areas and other offending.

Criminals only care about what is the easiest and fastest number plate to take. They do not carry a toolbox — only a standard screwdriver that fits in a pocket. Sometimes you don't even know your plates have been taken until Police contact you.

Hibiscus Coast Neighbourhood Support and local Police hold several Safer Plate events, supported by local businesses, where licence plates can be fitted with anti-theft screws.

Have your tools engraved with your driver licence number, so you have a better chance of recovering them if they're stolen — and so a thief can be linked to the theft.
